Big data is much more than just data bits and bytes on one side and processing on the other. It entails collecting, storing, processing, and analyzing immense quantities of data that is diverse in structure in order to produce insights that are actionable and value-added. Vast amounts of data of various types are being generated at increasing rates. Determining how to utilize this data strategically and efficiently is the goal of technologies associated with the Big Data initiative.

Merely collecting and storing data is not the sole objective of Big Data; rather, enhancement of businesses or societies drives the technologies of Big Data. For example, successful big data solutions can provide targeted marketing, identify new markets, or improve customer service through analysis of customer data, social media, or search engine data. Examination of industrial sensor data or business process data can enhance production, aid in proactive improvements to processes, or optimize supply chain systems. As a final example, society can benefit from big data analytics through intelligent healthcare monitoring, cybersecurity efforts, and smart cities data manipulation.

Developers rely on a growing portfolio of open source technologies to create, test and deploy critical applications. By creating a center of gravity for the open source JavaScript ecosystem, the OpenJS Foundation’s mission is to drive broad adoption and ongoing development of key JavaScript solutions and related technologies.

The primary goals of the OpenJS Foundation are:

We believe that it is essential to provide a neutral home for critical projects, with common principles of technical governance and accountability.  By doing so, we are providing for the long-term sustainability of both individual projects and the ecosystem as a whole.

The IEEE Internet of Things is one of IEEE’s important, multi-disciplinary, cross-platform Initiatives. The Internet of Things (IoT) is one of the most exciting technological developments in the world today and the global technical community is coalescing around the thought-leading content, resources, and collaborative opportunities provided by the IEEE IoT Initiative.

More information is revealed daily about the Internet of Things and its potential to transform how we communicate with machines and each other. To bring clarity to and disseminate information globally, IEEE Future Directions launched the IEEE IoT Initiative in 2014. It serves as a home for the global community of engineering and technology professionals in industry, academia, and government working in related technologies. Here, professionals learn, share knowledge, and collaborate on this sweeping convergence of technologies, markets, applications, and the Internet. Participants in the community have access to the most trusted resources developed including publications, videos, articles, and interviews, as well as webinars, Hangouts, presentations, workshops, and conferences, this web portal, and much more.

The American Management Association (AMA) is an international, nonprofit, membership-based association that provides a broad range of management development and educational services to individuals and organizations. The AMA provides individuals and organizations worldwide with tools to achieve excellence and prosper in a complex and competitive world, and serves as a forum for the exchange of the leading concepts, ideas, and insights on management practices and trends. The AMA maintains the highest commitment to ethical business practices, high-quality products and services, and the well-being of its customers, members, and employees

Business Informatics takes a systematic and analytic approach in aligning business intelligence, information science, and computer engineering into an engineering science for businesses. The core element of business informatics is a methodological approach for describing, explaining, predicting, and designing information and communication models, architectures, and systems for the business environment. Business informatics is a discipline combining several fields of study, including computer science, information technology, operations research, and management systems, to develop the new scientific foundation for business engineering.

The Technical Committee on Business Informatics and Systems (TCBIS) organizes and sponsors professional meetings, sets guidelines for educational programs, and helps nurture partnerships across academia, industry, and government agencies. In addition, TCBIS plans to publish a newsletter to help IEEE/Computer Society members keep abreast of the activities and events in this community.

The IEEE Computer Society Technical Committee on Data Engineering (TCDE) is concerned with the role of data in the design, development, management, and utilization of information systems. Issues of interest include database design; knowledge of the data and its processing; languages to describe data, define access, and manipulate databases; strategies and mechanisms for data access, security, and integrity control; and engineering services and distributed systems. TCDE cosponsors the International Conference on Data Engineering. It is involved with other conferences, symposia, and workshops, and publishes a quarterly newsletter.

The American Marketing Association is the essential community for marketers.
